Dr. Malia is a graduate of Kamehameha Schools. She attained a Bachelor's and Master's in Corporate Communication from Hawaiʻi Pacific University and a Doctorate in Education from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. She also has a professional certificate in plant-based nutrition from the T. Colin Campbell Center for Nutrition Studies e-Cornell program. Dr. Malia possesses extensive experience in management, strategic planning, media, organizational change, leadership development, plant-based nutrition, and sustainability. She is the president and owner of We The Well Beings, LLC and Sustainable Ideation, LLC, which has provided health, nutrition, and healing services and sustainability solutions, research, and reports for schools, hālau, and organizations like Premiere Medical Group, the Office of Hawaiian Affairs, and the Hawai'i Department of Agriculture. Dr. Malia's passion for aiding Native Hawaiians with chronic metabolic health conditions led her and her daughter, Kapi'olei, to create the Well Being Online Course and Hā'ehuola Health Program. This was born from the serendipitous connections she made while helping people at her award-winning vegan restaurant, 'Ai Love Nalo, and plant-based meal plan program. Combining her business insight and skills in curriculum design, lesson planning, and assessment development, she developed this culturally relevant educational program to help preserve ancient traditions while improving the health and wellness of her clients and community.
