How it all began...
In August 2015, we launched ʻAi Love Nalo, a plant-based restaurant in Waimānalo. With the help of a fantastic team, loyal customers, and a supportive community, we built something GREAT. ʻAi Love Nalo was awarded the best healthy restaurant in Hawai’i, won numerous Ilima Awards, and secured top spots in the vegetarian and vegan cuisine category by culinary experts. Also, we were featured in magazines, newspapers, videos, and TV shows, including an international airline in-flight program. Additionally, we made it on the front cover of Hawaiʻi’s popular Honolulu Magazine.
At first, our only goal was to offer healthier food options for our community. But, as fate would have it, that soon changed. About a year after we opened, we met a young man who needed heart surgery but had to lose some weight before the procedure. “I don’t know what I’m doing wrong,” he said. “I can’t seem to shake off the pounds. Can you help?” “Of course,” we replied.
So, we fed him two plant-based meals daily for a couple of months to help break his salt, sugar, and fat addiction. We also taught him about nutrition and gave him simple tips and tricks to improve his diet. By the end of week ten, he had lost 26 pounds and went on to have a successful surgery!
We think the word got out because we started to receive calls about our “new health and healing service.” So, we got to work and created our Hā’ehuola Health & Wellness Program, which strives to awaken the well Being in all people!
